My Mother's Day Challenge...

I could not be happier that tomorrow I am celebrating my 5th Mother's Day!

A long time ago, ok, not that long ago...but 12 years ago, when C and I were first dating he wished me Happy Mother's Day.  It surprised me, and my immediate reaction was to say, "but I am not a mother."  He replied, "no, but you will be someday."  Every year on Mother's Day I think about that and it makes me smile - and it makes me so grateful for the four wonderful Mother's Days that I have had so far...and the many more in front of me for the rest of my life.

I also take time to think about the other Mom's in my life that have impacted me; and of course impacted the mother I am, the mother I am striving to be and the mother that I will become.  My own mom (of course!), My Mother-in-law who is no longer with us, her sister Carolyn, who I love dearly, and her best friend Carole who reminds us of how happy my MIL would be.  Happy Mother's Day to all of them!

30 Blogs in 30 Days

For the past few months I have been working on a New Year's Resolution that I made (you can read about it here) to practice more self-preservation habits.  I can say with honesty that I have been doing pretty good - but could definitely do better.  One of the things that I wanted to do more of is blog...it gives me an outlet, I enjoy the simple act of writing and it just makes me feel like I have accomplished something.  So, this past week I came up with an idea.  I am going to write 30 (or more!) blogs in 30 days.  I'm going to hold myself accountable to it, I'm going to focus on it..I am going to do the best that I can.  The best part...I'm going to bring some other Mom's along with me for the ride.

Back to those self-preservation habits...

Find me a mom out there who gives 100% to her kids, to her family, to her house, to her job - even to the family dog and then still has the time, and has the energy to do enough for herself.  Do for herself? Do for ourselves?  There are so many moms that I know who overlook something that is so important...and something that (I think!) could make us so much better at everything else.

For the next 30 days I am going to do something each day for me.  It may be something small, something that takes 5 minutes, something that takes an hour or even something that costs a few dollars (but not a lot...I am on a budget).  But each night when I go to sleep I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I took care of EVERYTHING I could...and still made a little time for me.

So, how do you come along for the ride?  Easy, each day I'm going to write about what that little thing was and then challenge you to do the same thing.  Then tell me about it, or tell a friend about it, post it on Facebook, Tweet it, or even smile to yourself in the mirror like you have a great big secret...but one thing a day will be all about you!  Up to the challenge?  Then I'll see you back here tomorrow!
