Sweating Glitter!

Recently I've been feeling very crafty! Not sure where this bought of creativity came from, but it's been a long time since I've put time and energy into making things.  Years ago (years and years, to be exact), I used to craft all the time - painting, stitching, sewing, whatever - but times change.  Well, I guess they change back, too!

A few days ago I posted about the Bridal Shopping Survival Bags, which I loved...and they were a hit with the ladies when we went shopping.  That might have been what got me started.  It just feels so good to create something.  So I just kept going!

My friend Kelly makes these great embroidered t-shirts for all the kids.  Well since they grow like weeds, they don't stay in the stuff very long, it's tough to hand-me-down clothes with names on them...and they are just so darn cute...I'm sure you can appreciate my need to hold onto it for a little longer.  After a quick Pinterest search, a quick trip to Hobby Lobby for a zipper - behold, a crayon (or whatever!) pouch.

The Mayor loved it!  My sewing skills are a little rusty, but it turned out cute...and I have another zipper and another t-shirt to get some more practice on.

Drawers | Before
I went from playing with glitter glue to sewing...and then this past weekend I moved on to larger pursuits - and chalkboard paint! I took a dresser that was in our spare room and gave it a kid-fun-face-lift and moved it into The Mayor's room.  I have to say that my first endeavor with chalkboard paint may have consequences; with 3/4 of a can left, there is not a surface in my house that is safe.

Of course I totally forgot to take a before picture of the dresser, but I remembered to get a shot of the Drawers after we got them to the garage.

I was surprised how easy the paint was to work with.  I already have a few creative projects up my sleeve to do with some of the leftover paint.  Stay tuned for more sharing of my craftiness.

I am really happy with how the dresser came out.  The Mayor added his touch by picking out the hardware, and Hubby was my drill master...so we all had a hand in it, which really makes me smile!  Oh, and in three days when he can get busy with the chalk, he'll surely be smiling, too.

I hope this bought of craftiness lasts because I have quite a few other projects that I would like to take on.

What kind of crafty projects do you have planned?

Cheers!

Mother's Day Challenge - Day 10

Today was a departure from my normal Tuesday nights.  Normally Tuesday's are what we affectionately call "mom's dinner" nights.  This is the night that three mom friends and I get together for dinner, some wine, some kiddo playtime and some conversation.  This week, however, 50% of the mom's are getting ready for big moves, and I have a busy week that I'm trying to stay ahead of, so it was a good night to take off.

My original plan was to work a little later, have some dinner with my men and then relax and watch Dancing with the Stars season finale.  However, as the day went on I was running out of steam...and was truthfully feeling like I needed a little redemption from my challenge failure of yesterday.  So, I finished up at work and headed to Target.  I half wanted to wander around (who does not love wandering around Target!?!) and I was looking for some supplies to make a little craft project.  Crafting on a Tuesday...brilliant idea!  Relaxing idea!

A couple of months ago I found a really cute perpetual memory calendar of sorts on Pinterest.  I fell in love with the idea, and knew it would be something that I could give my own twist and have some fun with it.  Here is the original idea:

You can also check it out at www.designsponge.com.
I was looking for something to hold the index cards that was a little modern; and had nice clean lines.  Behold, the cutest little "crate" that holds the full size index card perfectly!  For my dividers, I wanted to use photos.  Once it is complete, each day I will have an opportunity to write something that happened, something I did, or any other event.  What a great way to record memories.

The start of my perpetual memory calendar!
I dug through an old box of pictures, and found twelve that were a good representation of old photos, new photos and family members.  I trimmed photos to the index cared width, but slightly taller.  I then covered the photos using clear contact paper to give them some stability.  There is some more work to do, but for now I know that I have had some "me" time tonight and that feels great!  I'm looking forward to taking the time to finish it up so I can start adding memories.  I will post more pics when it's done.

Happy memory making!

Let's start off right with this blog post by making two things clear:

1.  I'm not going to begin to try to explain what the title of this blog means.  Not only would I be completely unsuccessful at it, but I'm not 100% sure it would even translate properly.
2.  If you are easily offended and/or don't care for profanity - please use your back button now and return from whence you came.

|| ugg:

The following is a list of things that I'm completely over!
  • Whining - not just from 5-year olds, but from adults who should know better.  Please people, buck up, deal with it.  More importantly, listen to yourself...you should really be ashamed.
  • Women who make the rest of us look bad - ladies, it's 2012...far time we stopped being our own worst enemies.  There is nothing more frustrating when I can sit back and with complete certainty, look at another women and think, "Why yes, that would be why men think women are fucking wack-a-doodles!"So thank you, thank you tons for making things so much harder than they have to be.
  • People lost in their own self importance - well aww, shucks, I am really sorry that your 8-hour work day has sucked the life out of you.  It must be exhausting being responsible for your actions and the life you've chosen.
Now that I've gotten that off my mind I can move on.  I don't know about other people, but I am one of those people who can only get things off my mind by getting them out of my mind.  There...done!

 Here's a little complete randomness:

Taxidermy
  • I've discovered something new in the past few weeks and just had to share.  Taxidermy animals are absolutely hysterical.  Well, maybe not all of them, but the one's The Bloggess speaks of are (amongst other things she writes about).  If you are not already a fan of The Bloggess, then please click the link below and check her out (you can thank me later!).  Oh, and check out Juanita the Weasel, you will love her as much as I do.
 Internet Article Comments
  • I don't think it's a stretch to say that most people are using the expansive www. as the source for their news and article reading pleasures.  Along with all the articles spreading the news, there is a whole other source of unfiltered (most of the time!) entertainment at the bottom of most articles...The Comments!  Word to the wise, if you are not skimming the comments you are surely missing out.  Bottom line, it's the first place I have found where the educated, the spell-check-challenged, people with a low profile (anonymous asses) and narcissistic attention seekers all live together in harmony.  Ok, maybe not harmony...but they're all in one place; and it's like a train-wreck.  You just can't stop reading.  You just can't get past that some total fuck-nut not only learned how to work their compter...but found their way to the comments section of an article on the Huffington Post.
Pinterest
  • In the past few days there has been a ton of conversation about Pinterest, the online pinboard, wish list maker.  A lot of the conversation is about a bunch of hoo-haa-stereotypical-women crap, whatever!  Reality is though, I'm hooked.  Yes, it's a big, ridiculous time suck; but beyond that it has spurred some creativity within me that I've been trying to find for a while.  It's well worth a quick peek.  In the meantime, here are two of my Pinterest inspired bouts of creativity.
Lots of Lego Birthday Party ideas!  Made these Lego Men pops.

Crafting?  Yes, made this great Valentine's day wreath.

 \\ ahhh

And a few more things:
  • I completely enjoyed this total curse fest my family got into on Facebook.  Random, yes!  Funny, completely!  Want to enjoy this emotional Facebook outlet?  Just have a random family member start a status with the word FUCK, then have the rest of the sarcastic asses in the family comment back.  Yes, this really did happen.
  • I nearly had a complete panic attack when I realized that as I was having a little fun with my family - the words "Jenn commented on a status...Happy Fucking Valentines Day" appeared somewhere on my boss' News feed.  Oops.
  • This Sunday is Oscar Sunday.  It's like a holiday for me and something I look forward to every year.  Hopefully, it will be a blog inspiring night.
And that Ladies and Gentlemen is about as true a rant as you get.
